Jumatay Aubakir, known as the “Doctor on Horseback” has been serving in the Baozhade’er pastoral area since July 1992. He has earned the titles of “Most Beautiful Rural Doctor,” “National Labor Medal,” and “National Outstanding Communist Party Member.” His working area is situated at an average altitude of over 3,000 meters, with steep mountain roads and scattered herdsmen’s homes. He must navigate treacherous mountains to reach each herder’s residence.
Despite the challenging terrain, Jumatay Aubakir never refuses to help any patient in need. Over his career, he has had four horses, two of which tragically died due to the harsh conditions. What the herdsmen are most familiar with is Jumatay Aubakir’s worn-out leather medical bag, which was once used by his father for over 40 years during his own medical practice.
